            An exciting opportunity….


The Art Star Awards Program honors a mayor who has demonstrated exemplary support for the arts in his/her community. It is sponsored by the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education and its local affiliate, the Oklahoma Alliance.  It’s an opportunity to celebrate arts accomplishments in a community.  The Award is presented at the annual Mayors’ Breakfast in September.


We encourage you to take advantage of this honor.  To be considered for the Mayor’s Art Star Award, please complete the nomination form and the 2-page letter of recommendation describing the work of the mayor in supporting/promoting arts in the community.

1.     During the mayor’s tenure, what new programs or structures have been developed to encourage arts appreciation?


2.     Describe ways the major has worked with arts groups in the community.


3.     Give an example of how the major has worked with the Board of Education to encourage growth of arts education in the schools.


4.     Who are some of the artists/arts groups who have risen to prominence due to the positive environment for the arts in the city/town?


5.     How does the major work with the Chamber of Commerce to highlight the arts in his/her community to prospective businesses?


6.     Give examples of lectures, workshops, performances or shows that focus on the arts in your community.
